FREDERIC'S LIST FOR FASHION HELL: THE RAY-BAN PRESCRIPTION VERSION WAYFARERS, COWBOY BOOTS AND 'TOTAL-LOOKS' BORING VOGUE EDITORIALS... ?
Schoolboy by day, fashion prodigy by night, Frederic Betancourt of Tales from Frederic is wise beyond his 18 years, and spends his time blog’lovin about everything from summer trips in Paris, to pancakes with his beloved mother. When he’s not posting pictures of his vintage dandyisms in rolled up teddy bear trousers and alpaca scarves, or channeling Lanvin in a DIY flower panama, he’s typing away at a slightly unhealthy obsession with Muiccia Prada and super skinny models…
SS: Talk us through a day in the life of Frederic…
Frederic: My life is very normal, as every guy of my age. From Monday to Friday I wake up and choose a simple outfit (skinny jeans, leather jacket, trench) for school. In the afternoon, if I don't have drums lessons or something special, I have coffee with friends, go shopping...We also watch some DVD's (Sofia Coppola is my favourite), or just talk around a cake (they love make cakes, I love eat them). In the evening I check emails, blogs, Facebook and all that... Usually don't watch TV, maybe just some TV series (Family Guy, The Simpsons, Skins). In the weekends you can find me partying until the first lights of the day, but that's another story... ?
SS: Huckleberry Finn, The BFG, Wuthering Heights…what’s your favourite story of all time??Frederic: My favourite book is The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. ?
SS: Mr. Universe (SUPERSWEET’s very own God!) sends you into a novel, what novel are you in and who are you??
Frederic: Mmm.... Maybe Vogue Hommes Japan, and I'm the skinny guy shot by Slimane. ?
SS: Channel your inner Whitman and write us a poem…?
Frederic: I wrote it in Spanish :)
SS: You have a legion of vintage loving disciples following every step you take in your brown moccasins, where do you get your inspiration?
Frederic: Actually I don't have a clear inspiration. Of course fashion shows and magazines. I like models' style, like the Swedish and Danish ones and their total-black, simple but awesome looks. Everything can inspire me, it depends of my mood (and the weather), just a song or a movie. ?
SS: Do you consider yourself a dandy?
Frederic: The answer is I don't. I feel admiration for the dandy figure but I don't think that it represents my interests. Some people could think that because of some past outfits, but I definitely don't. ?
SS: You come over all Oscar Wilde and the paper is your playground. You write a book about your life, what’s the title and how does the blurb read?
Frederic: The title is The Never-Ending Journey because I think all facts in my life are always developing, I love to travel and discover new places, food and people (als with fashion and stores). The blurb: "A book about personal evolution and the search for happiness and the perfect wardrobe." (LOL) ?
SS: Let’s play a little game of ‘We Say, You Say.’ What’s the first thing that springs to mind when we say…?
SS: Spain
Frederic: Warm
SS: Legend
Frederic: Ancient
SS: Style
Frederic: Icon?
SS: Magic
Frederic: Fly?
SS: Music?
Frederic: Feelings ?
SS: If you could send three things into the burning pits of fashion hell, never to resurface, what would they be??
Frederic: The Ray-Ban prescription version Wayfarers (I like, but I also think are veeeery burned and boring), cowboy boots and ‘total-looks’ boring Vogue editorials.... ?
SS: What in your wardrobe do you love more than life itself??
Frederic: An old Comme des Garçons denim blazer that my aunt gave me. ?
SS: Miuccia Prada invites you to dinner and you raid the SUPERSWEET clothing cupboard, what do you wear and why?
Frederic: Probably Alexandre Herchcovitch Angle-Work Top (it's great!) ,with Atelier 1 Cardigan and Opening Ceremony Grey Suede Shoes (very nice), worn with a black skinny jeans. I think it's a simple yet dark look and it's very nice. ?
SS: You have a Dickens Scrooge experience and get an unexpected visit from the ghosts of past, present and future. What moments do they take you to?
Frederic: From the past, I think first time I saw Prada FW 07 collection...It's my all time favourite and made me understand the importance of proportions, fabrics, colours and shapes; and how boring the ''conventional'' sense of style can be. From the present, something very special for me, in a couple of weeks I'll make my runway debut as a model. And finally from the future - In ten years I hope to find I’m a good stylist, in twenty years, a fashion editor and when I'm old and grey, I just want to be healthy and very happy.
