Known for his visually aesthetic performances, Kelpe aka the Loughborough lad Kel McKeown returned this autumn 2009 with Cambio Wechsel, a low-level electronica piece, shuddering soothing frequencies, more lasting and innovative than his past pubescent deliberations. Giving us a taste of his artistic inspirations, McKeown reveals his down-right adoration for vintage dance moves, big-bottomed booty shakin’ and the legendary Michel Gondry. First, Kelpe exposes all the unwashed tongues in his featured video for Microscopic Contents: finally, fungal infections and music unite!
Dorian Concept: Trilingual Dance Sexperience
Kel: A really good, silly, dance song with nice Super 8 footage of Eastern Europeans dancing in the 1960s and 70s.
Cornelius: Point of View Point
Kel: This one is great because the edits are so tight with music; both the track and the video are very inventive.
Lunice x MIKE SLOTT: Soul Investigators
Kel: I like this one because it’s got some of the best dancing I have ever seen and it goes so well with the sweet sounds.
Chemical Brothers: Let Forever Be
Kel: I really love the lo-fi meets high production techniques on this one. It’s proper trippy as well; Michel Gondry at his best.
Beastie Boys: Time For Livin'
Kel: For nostalgic reasons, this just really reminds me of my teenage years - hardcore and skating.
Beyonce ft. Jay-Z: Crazy In Love
Kel: Just one of the best pop songs ever. Not really a groundbreaking video, but still very nice to look at, and a good example of shiny expensive music videos of that time.
