What They Say: Paul Smith's Project 10: Bag is a reaction to a world full of mass production. In an effort to strive for individuality, Paul Smith has taken one bag shape, the ‘Flight Bag’, and produced individual designs - 138 in total - for every Paul Smith shop in Japan. Each bag is a limited edition of 10, and they were launched exclusively in Japan in April this year. See them on display in the Design Museum atrium and one lucky visitor will win one of these money-can't-buy bags.
What We Say: Is this the chandelier of shopaholics’ delight, or the spectacular vines of designer’s bags? Either way, it is a pleasure to browse the collection that is suspended from the ceiling of the Design Museum to its ground floor. Eclecticism is the key. All the bags are unique in their design but retain the Paul Smith signature style—from geometrical to map and animal prints. Some look artsy; others commercial. The only drawback will be that what we see and touch, we cannot have. The bags are exclusively sold in Japan.
Verdict: Rather pricey installment but still much cheaper than a return flight to Japan.
