I used to have two Italian Greyhounds, a much smaller type of Greyhound. Most full size Greyhound owners will quickly inform you the two aren't much alike, and I'd protest that one of my Italians was an exception. She is the best dog I ever had, and I wondered if the full size Greyhounds shared the same temperament. A neighbor of mine had a white Greyhound named Miles, whom I got to know more while I researched the breed. The next thing I knew I was on The Fast Friends website looking at available adoptions.
Tom (who runs Fast Friends) has expressed his wish that this piece reflect the desirability of the Greyhound breed, and not that anybody feel sorry for them. It will hopefully be made clear by the dedication displayed by all volunteers involved what a Greyhound can do for the spirit. The volunteers come from far away, and they come regularly with the common appreciation for the Greyhound as an ideal companion. The next time I speak to Tom will be in hopes to qualify in adopting a Greyhound.
